Jerry Campos
Sr. Air Medical Base Supervisor
PHI Air Medical LLC
Jerry Campos has devoted his career to caring for people during some of the most critical moments of their lives. Through service as a firefighter, Paramedic, Flight Paramedic, educator, and air medical leader, Jerry has remained guided by a simple principle: every patient deserves the level of care he would want for someone he loves.
As an experienced Flight Paramedic and air medical leader in Arizona, Jerry cares for critically ill and injured patients whose needs often require rapid access to specialized treatment. His clinical experience includes advanced ventilator support, maternal and neonatal transport, intra-aortic balloon pumps, Impella devices, advanced airway management, and other complex interventions. In demanding situations, Jerry combines clinical expertise with the calm judgment and decisive leadership necessary to help patients reach the care they need.
Jerry’s impact, however, extends far beyond the patients he personally treats. Recognizing that lifesaving care depends on a coordinated system, he has built strong relationships with fire departments, EMS agencies, hospitals, law enforcement, and other public safety partners throughout Arizona. He provides education, participates in landing-zone training, reviews complex clinical cases, and shares advanced clinical knowledge to help EMS professionals recognize when patients require a higher level of care.
He is also a dedicated mentor to new air medical clinicians, guiding them from the academy through independent flight status. Jerry teaches more than protocols and technical skills. He emphasizes judgment, accountability, communication, teamwork, and the ability to remain composed when circumstances are changing rapidly. Most importantly, he reminds those he mentors that behind every call is a person, a family, and a life that matters.
Jerry’s commitment is particularly meaningful to rural and underserved communities, where distance from major medical centers can create significant barriers to specialized care. He works with local healthcare and public safety partners to strengthen access to air medical resources and improve coordination for critically ill patients. He understands both the responsibility and the privilege of helping bridge the distance between a patient and potentially lifesaving treatment.
For Jerry, exceptional care also means recognizing the fear and uncertainty patients and families may experience. He expects every patient to receive not only excellent clinical care, but also compassion, communication, dignity, and the reassurance that someone is advocating for them.
Jerry’s legacy cannot be defined by a single call. It is reflected in the patients who received advanced care, the rural communities connected with critical resources, and the clinicians who became stronger providers because he took the time to teach them. By sharing his knowledge and developing others, Jerry multiplies his ability to make a difference far beyond any one aircraft or patient encounter.
Jerry Campos has built a career around saving lives, preparing others to save lives, and never losing sight of the person at the center of every call. His service, compassion, clinical excellence, and commitment to others embody the spirit of a Star of Life.
