Nicky Langdon
RN/Paramedic
Air Evac Lifeteam
Robin “Nicky” Langdon is a Flight Nurse with Air Evac Lifeteam (AEL) in Hardinsburg, Kentucky, whose clinical expertise, quick thinking, and determined patient advocacy helped save the life of a critically ill patient.
During a challenging transport, Nicky and her flight partner cared for a patient whose condition continued to deteriorate. Recognizing the severity of the emergency, the crew coordinated and administered a significant volume of blood products while providing continuous lifesaving care.
Nicky also recognized that the patient urgently needed surgical intervention. She strongly advocated for the patient to be admitted directly to the operating room, helping minimize delays in reaching definitive treatment. When the patient’s condition became critical during transfer and additional blood products were not yet available, Nicky continued transfusions using her crew’s own supply, helping sustain the patient until the surgical team could assume care.
The patient survived and ultimately made a full recovery. The successful outcome reflected the coordinated work of the entire care team, with Nicky’s clinical judgment, persistence, and willingness to advocate for what her patient needed playing an important role.
Nicky’s actions demonstrate the vital role critical care transport professionals play in bridging the gap between initial treatment and definitive care. Air Evac Lifeteam is proud to recognize Flight Nurse Nicky Langdon as a Star of Life.
