David “Dave” Adam, EMT-B, has become an essential member of Beauport Ambulance Service, demonstrating that serving an EMS mission extends far beyond responding to calls. Through his dedication to fleet maintenance, operational readiness, teamwork, and patient care, Dave helps ensure that Beauport is prepared to answer when its communities need help.

One of Dave’s most significant contributions has been his instrumental role in developing and maintaining Beauport’s state-of-the-art fleet maintenance operation. Safe, reliable ambulances are fundamental to providing emergency medical care, and Dave takes that responsibility personally. He has dedicated countless hours to keeping Beauport’s vehicles operational, frequently working late into the evening, coming in during his time off, and responding when unexpected mechanical problems threaten the organization’s ability to maintain ambulance coverage.

Perhaps nothing illustrates Dave’s commitment better than what happens when operational needs suddenly change. There have been times when Dave has stopped working on one ambulance in the maintenance shop, shifted roles, and climbed aboard another to provide patient care and help maintain coverage. Once the immediate need was met, he returned to the shop and resumed the work necessary to put another ambulance back into service.

That versatility reflects Dave’s approach to EMS. He does not define service by the boundaries of a particular job description. Whether diagnosing a mechanical problem, completing an emergency repair, helping a crew return to service, working additional hours, or stepping onto an ambulance as an EMT, Dave consistently puts the needs of his coworkers, patients, and community first.

Much of Dave’s work happens behind the scenes, but its impact can be felt on virtually every call Beauport answers. Every ambulance he keeps operational means another crew ready to respond, another community with dependable EMS coverage, and another patient able to receive care when it matters most.

Through his dedication, teamwork, versatility, and willingness to serve wherever he is needed, Dave exemplifies the spirit of emergency medical services. His contributions have strengthened Beauport Ambulance Service, supported his fellow EMS professionals, and helped ensure that the organization remains ready to answer the call.
